Will the Next-Generation Ford Expedition Have Best-In-Class Towing?

The Ford Expedition is getting a complete redesign and entering its fourth generation—its first major overhaul in ten years. While the Expedition has kept itself modern with frequent updates, the bumper-to-bumper all-new 2018 Expedition is giving SUV drivers reason to get excited.

The truck-based, rear-wheel-drive, body-on-frame Expedition puts the "utility" in SUV. It has three rows of comfortable seating for passengers, but is just as skilled at hauling cargo as it is at hauling people. For 2018, the Expedition is getting a boost to its towing capability—up to 9,300 pounds.

That puts it about even with a mid-range F-150, and, according to Ford, will make it best-in-class for towing when it goes on sale later this year.

To make towing even easier, the 2018 Expedition will be available with Ford's Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature, which is already offered on F-Series pickups.
