Ford Strives to Protect Environment—Read Up on Efforts in 2017 Sustainability Report

On the shores of Lake Ontario, surrounded by wildlife management areas and scenic byways, Rochester is a great place for nature-lovers. There are many threats facing our environment, from deforestation, to pollution, and—looming over all else—climate change.

Ford Motor Company's executive chairman Bill Ford noticed this, too, and was disturbed to see the natural places he enjoyed growing up start to disappear. So 18 years ago, he made a big decision—he was going to open up his family's company to scrutiny by reporting its environmental impact.

"I think everybody thought I was crazy," he said. "Bill has finally lost his mind, because he's published a report criticizing Ford."

In the subsequent years, however, Ford's Sustainability Report became more and more glowing as the automaker increased its efficiency, cleaned up its factories, scrutinized the practices of its suppliers, and developed green materials to build with. In fact, 2017 marks the 8th year in a row Ford was named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute.
